About The class
I worked in New York as a womenswear textile designer for a long time, eventually co-owning a design studio. We sold to hundreds of retailers and they all looked for unique styles that reflected their brand - but the consistent thread between them was an inexhaustible demand for original florals. There are a million ways to paint a flower and I've tried quite a few.
Flowers feature in every period in the history of design and, regardless of passing trends, they are always a best selling subject matter. Floral imagery offers endless possibilities for artistic experimentation and innovation in terms of colour, form and composition and can stand alone or be used as a decorative element with other subject matter.
Explore Florals will introduce you to inspiring floral themes. You’ll see how florals are a huge and varied subject and you can approach them in exciting ways that are super commercial - but uniquely yours.
Whether you are planning to make a Mother's Day card or license your artwork for a line of products with a high-end retailer, Explore Florals will help you creatively explore and look at a familiar subject in a new way.
By the end of the course you’ll have beautiful artwork for your portfolio and a clearer understanding of this important market and how your work fits into it.
The course lasts three weeks. Each week you’ll receive;
A detailed and informative written brief.
A beautiful mood board, full of inspiring imagery.
A unique, commercial color palette
During the week, you can create a single piece of artwork or a small collection. All students are invited to join a private Facebook group to show their work in a supportive environment. I am always very present, offering lots of encouragement!
Professionals and beginners are welcome. The course is structured to accommodate a full spectrum of levels and materials.
